Numbers Numbers. I like numbers , I live for numbers. And because I take my hobby as a hugely analytical exercise I love when I get new numbers.
So week 1 and day 2 , I am meant to do an FTP test. For me this is a bit of mixed bag. I don’t own a power tap yet (on the list of purchases). So till then I have to use heart-rate , perceived effort, and cadence at a specific gear as an estimate. Yeah I know after all that I would much rather have a power tap which tells me how many watts I am generating. Get a headache just getting a good ftp measure.
So the deal with ftp is that you warmup and then just bike hard for 40mins, super hard as if the elephant is chasing after you hard. As if the elephant is the first in the stampede hard. You get the point. I got home put my bike on the trainer. And calibrated it so I could still get cadence at a specific resistance.
After the warmup I started the time trial. Ok 10mins and I am thinking to myself this isn’t that bad. 15mins in , and I need some liquids I am dripping a river on the mat. 20mins in and I am ready to puke. I am just physically ill and don’t think I can push this hard any longer.
Ok you have to dig in. You know this test hurts. You need to finish the 40 mins and jump off the bike to pick your wife up from the train.
25 mins in and I can feel the bile in my mouth and the lactic acid in my legs. This is just sadistic. 30mins, 35 mins I am hanging on for dear life. I got to 35 mins and say ok suck it up for another 5mins and you are done.Finish and I am ready to pass out.
Ok I have to put my bike away get in the car and pickup rhian. On the way back I feel light-headed have to just sit outside the apt for a while.
Ok so my lthr is 153 ,my watts (calculated) is 253 enough to power a small server.
