Amount of food

I am amazed at what athletes can eat while training. Including myself. At training camp I calculated I ate 7500 cal in 2 days. That is over 3 days of food in 2 days. And it wasn’t just me, I was joined by over 40 other athletes that were eating as if we were starved. I saw athletes eat a large snickers bar, 2 bottles of pepsi just for a snack during the ride. I managed to eat 3 plates of pasta in 1 meal and was hungry 2 hrs afterwards. Boy the food we eat

Sick

So I wonder if my body is just telling me stop this madness. Stop this biking for 4 hr and then running. I made for it. Or maybe it is just that every time I visit family in dc I get sick.
So after 4 days of fighting it I had to give into the microscopic organisms that have taken control. Had to call in a day sick at work and hence no workouts either

The day of questioning

So as days of training start to go by , you question your sanity. You question what you want to do, what you want to achieve out of 1 race. After a couple of hard days in a training week , your body starts to feel the wear and tear. You feel mentally burnt from work and the workouts, you feel physically tired, your muscles feel fatigued even after a rest, you search your inner self to find out if you have it in you to do the next workout. Is that what it takes ??

A lot of triathletes talk about paying your dues. Is this what I own to the gods IM.

Tri tests and days at work

So for the last week I have been doing different triathlon tests. Just so I can get some metrics to measure my progress over time. I did my last vdot test and was suprised my vdot number has not moved much from 43. I was able to run 3mi in 22min.

After that it was a harrowing amount of work. I had to work 12hr days to get some projects ready. And on top of that 2 major snowstorms destroyed any structured training.

So now in the beginning of this week which is the build phase of the training, I have to get real focus on this race.

Days back, work , workswork

So after taking a couple of days off training. And do a full week of the scheduled workouts I got slammed by work. The whole of last week was spent getting projects up to date, writing code, reviewing code and projects. Finally using the extra holiday on presidents day a breather.

Now it is back to workswork. The little known endurance nation saying , referring to I need to start back up. Only 160days left. I have got to make every day count from here to the IM

Question this ?

Last week I had several ephinay moment about triathlons and racing. On a train ride back home as I was wondering that I consistently work 60+hr/weeks , I did the calculation of how many hours of training does the average triathlete do in a year.

So lets say you are doing an IM , you will hit at avg of 10-15 hr /week, peaking at maybe closer to 25hr a week. That is roughly 21-32 days of training in a year , not counting days/weeks off. Now roughly 1/3 of that time (possibly more) is spent on the bike, a average biker produces 250+ watts on the bike that is roughly 34.6 Megawatt(hrs) of power. That is enough power that a small biking club (15-20) people can power a small apt.

This year at the end of the year I am going to total up my figures of total of each sport and reflect on them.

All this almost makes me wonder if I didn’t do this what would I do with all the spare time I have. hmmm.

Boston trip

2 weeks before the philly marathon and I want to get away from it all. I want to get away from training, from the same environment, from work. So R and I decided to take an overdue trip to bean-town. On the one promise that this time I would not wear a yankees baseball cap throughout our trip.

We luckily got a great hotel by the harbor thanks to some co-workers. On sat morning we drove to bean-town taking detour to meetup with a couple of friends in hartford. By the time we got to boston it was 3pm and I was ready to crash. Took a quick nap and went out to visit some of the sites.

The one thing I have to question is why boston restaurants have absurdly long waits. We waited for a spot at neptune oyster bar for over 1 1/2 hrs. Seriously it is as if there is a shortage of space in boston to eat.

On sat I went for an early morning run and then met up with abbass for brunch
