2010 Ski Trip

Rhian and I had been debating going skiing to vermont for a couple of days. I was off work starting the 27 and so was she. Now it was matter of getting the logistics correct. We finally decided to go up to killington for 2 days.

The first days was cold and cloudy. The top of the mountain was completely covered with low clouds. We skied mostly on snowdon it has some good blue runs going down.

The next day it was great weather. The sun was out. You could see to the horizon. We did the main face of killington skiing most of the day till we had to drive back home.

Slowness over the holidays

I told myself I would continue with my planned workouts throughout the holidays. I think that continued for about 3 days and then skipped a couple. Why of Why. I was doing good. I was getting some speed, some endurance. And now we have 2 days of this eating festival.

Ironman Video

I laughed so hard when a teammate sent me this video. This reminds me of so many conversations with friends, family , co-worked. It is the same quizzical look I get every time when I explain what I do. And I care to dispute the sex portion.

I am an Ironman

Sick again

Argghhhh. I am sick again. This sinus infection again. Thanks to being alergic and taking no medication because of races I tend to get infections.

Now I have to decide whether I go upto lake placid as discussed for july 4th. Or do we go to DC. Reservation in LP are made but I don’t want to drive 7 hrs when I am sick. And then this also effects training.

The watch

So my watch broke on the last day of the endurance nation camp in lake placid. My trusty timex , which I had never left off my hands for years snapped in two. I was completely freaked out, have an ironman in 25 days , a wedding in 65, and you worry about among all things a watch .

So went online and decided I needed to get a different watch. I was hoping I could just get the new timex GPS trainer which had just come out. But after reading the review by another en athlete decided it was a waster of money. So then it was down to doing research of the different watches. Finally decided on the Polar 800CX system, it worked in a similar way to the timex. The hearrate and and watch worked together pretty well . And the GPS was standalone. And then if I want the bike speed unit. It connects to the computer to transfer data through IR. The only big NO-NO was it is not ANT+ compatible.

So I ended up buying it from amazon. And it finally arrived today. Went out for a test run , the GPS couldn’t get any satellites . But I wasn’t planning on using that during the race . The hearrate was nice. Now I just have to go through the several hundred screens to configure it.

Pie Day

The payout of this training. On my birthday I get to have pie. And not just any pie but pie from pie gourmet. R and fatima got 2 large pies. Oh and they tasted so good

Slow Week

The week after training camp I am low on energy. I manage to get 2 workouts in for the entire week. The trip to dc won’t help. Some days you have to take what you have.

The straw that broke the camels back

Everyone has a breaking point. You find different breaking points while training. Your breaking point on the run, the bike at work, and then your mental breaking point. My breaking point was a $100 training watch which broke during my swim in placid. Who would have thought. I felt naked without a training watch. I drove R insane talking about. I wanted a new watch asap, I needed a watch.
I was debating a watch that would work with a power meter . Also after rich mentioned he would kick our ass if we had race wheels and no power meter , I figured I didn’t want to make that mistake. I finally gave in and bought a polar watch just to keep my sanity. It would get delivered before I left for dc.

Ride in the rain

The 2nd day of the camp and it is raining. Quite the downpour. I think we were all debating whether to do the ride. The plan was to do a 100 mi epic ride. I rode down to the cyclery met up with a couple of other people. Atleast now I know I am not the only insane person. We decide to do to skip the 100mi ride and do 1 loop of the course.
Heading out of town by the time we get 10 mi into the ride I am soaked, my shoes are soaked, and so is every other place I can think of. I have to make pitstop because I keep hearing a wires noise from the bike. And the gears keep skipping. I check the regular things and they are fine. We start to head down. And You wonder the sanity of riding 40 mph downhill on wheels of 3cm with a piece of rubber for breaking which 8cm long. Give that some thought. Luckily everyone in the group makes it down fine. We continue to jay and then willmington by the time I pass whiteface the rain stop. So for the final 1/2hr no rain. I get into town and head straight for the hotel. The bike needs a clean so do I and both need to dry off.
