Day 0.6 of Cleanse diet

So not sure what in the world I was thinking but I agreed to put myself in 10 days of a purge diet. It is meant to be lemon-juice+cayenne with a lot of water. Yes for the person that loves food this is absolutely crazy. But it is meant to be the perfect time to do it since I am not doing a big training block. And this is meant to help me figure out what is best in my diet. The goal is to do this for 10 days and then slowly introduce regular food back in my diet to see impacts.

This reminds of fasting in ramzan except it is so much worst. Well after 6 hrs I feel absolutely horrible. Slight headache , craving food .

Kati rolls and beer

So in lieu of my mediocre vdot test decided to go have some kati rolls and beer. Since my last time in the city with the tri-team I figured out the blind tiger ale house is about 2 blocks from the kati roll place in the village. Now that was a combo waiting to happen beer followed by kati rolls and then repeat. Rhian had the day off so she was able to go into the city early. I on the other hand was still dealing with a major office move and all its related stuff. I barely managed to escape the office by 6:00 . Called azfar and figured he would be game for good un-healthy food. Met him in GCT. And went down to the village.

If you haven’t experienced the blind tiger ale house. You should. Recommended by one of the biggest micro-beer aficionados I know. It lives upto the hype. Some of the most difficult to find brews are found in the small bar of the village. After a glass each we all decided to go down to have kati rolls. Now if you haven’t experienced this , kati rolls are thin fried bread wrap which can have your choice filling (usually minced meat) . Yes I know I should be on a diet for triathlons but seriously how BORING! . I managed to have 4 of these wonderfully un-healthy wrap (And yes I did do my training justice in that meal) . After that followed by some gelato now that I would have to say is a nyc meal. multi-cultural , ethnic and still a good dam un-healthy combination on all counts! .

Good food

I can’t begin to explain my passion for good food. It is almost at the same level as my passion for working out, biking ,running. If I was to concisely debate why enjoy exercising so much I would have to conclude that is because it allows me to eat the food I like.
Like most athletes I like to have a good balanced , maybe a not so healthy meal both before my run and after.
So before my 14mile odyssey it was Kabab king And wonderful orgy of meat. Kababs have are so much more enjoyable after you have gone to a bar with some friends before.

After the run on Monday R and I decided to try a new Italian joint up the street from us. It is Al Dente in Stratford. It had gotten great reviews and since Al Paccino had eaten their several times I figured it had to have some authentic Italian nature to it. We went their straight after work , skipping my Monday swim (it’s only oct) . Ordered a good glass of wine and some bruschetta to start. The wine was good and the bruschetta was to my enjoyment, wonderfully simple. I hate it when some over ambitious, snotty chef decides to over-complicate a simple dish. Simplicity is always the bueaty in life. This was crisp fresh bread with a drizzle of evoo fresh tomatoes and basil. Simplicity and wonderful.
My salad was a bit of dissapoijtment. Being drenched in balsamic sauce I felt I was having vinegar bottle. But againt it was fresh and good pallate cleanser.
Finally to the main course. My shrimp al dente was wonderful. I could taste the “ala vodka” sauce as it had cooked with the shrimp. The pasta was perfectly cooked and then tossed with the sauce and the Shrimp making it that absoulte wholistic dish that you wish a chef would create just for you. The tiny addition of the peas and pruchitto offered the variation in texture and taste in the dish.
Rhian got the spaghetti bolognese can’t really say much about it since I was so satisfied with my own dish. Will try the leftovers tonight.
