Kamil Talk

Its a wonder when a 4 year old is going to have a talk with about marriage, life. In my recent trip to DC to meet family my nephew all of 4 years old asked me some very pointed , direct questions. I think my answers remained correct, maybe cryptic at times, and dummied down for a 4 year old to understand. I think my older sister was responsible for this conversation.

Both Kamil and I had gone outside to sit in the garden. It was then he asked “Are you and Rhian married?” . Now given Kamil has known Rhian since he was born. In fact they both share the same birthday. But wow where did this come from . My answer went from an initial flat out denial in my head , to “No we are not married but we have known each other for a very long time” . Next question , do you and Rhian live together. Wow and I am thinking , well according to Islamic law I would say “no” , since CT does not have a 7 year co-habitation law I can say “yes” . As a practical matter yes. But really to a 4 year old would that matter so the answer was “We both live in Milford” .

Ok well geography is clearly not my nephew’s strong subject (or maybe at 4, the whole city, state, country thing is hard to digest). So his reply was “But you live in coooo-nnneeeecticut ” . “Yes I live in CT, milford is in CT”.

After that I decided it was time to end this conversation so I showed him how to do cartwheels in the lawn.
