Winter Running

Started running again after a 4 month interim due to my injury. Even though the injury was an elbow dislocation just didn’t feel the motivation to pound my body at 8mi/hr . Winter is probably the toughest time to pick up a sport or exercise in the northeast, everything slows down and the weather disrupts any training schedule.

I have to be honest I hate running in the winter. Karachi always had a temperate climate throughout the year. In NewYork starting December to March the weather makes it an interesting experience to workout outside.
I manage to do the shorter runs in the weekday outside it is usually a quick 40mins and you get back indoors to warm back up. As long as it is not snowing it is nice to run outside. I usually run down to the beach and then another couple miles along the shore. It makes for a perfect night run. The beach is deserted and its beautiful to look out to the island or run towards it.

The Sunday run is usually a tossup between running for 6-10mi outside or using the dreaded treadmill. I HATE doing a long run on the treadmill. I feel everybody at the gym looking around and wondering why is this guy just running for 90mins. Also as ridiculous as it is most treadmills reset after 60mins. Who would have thought. Some myopic chip programmer thought hey its a treadmill nobody runs more that 1hr right? So you wait for 5mins while the stupid thing reboots and your body has every reason to just say walk away even the treadmill does not want you to continue.

Either way its the winter here. You suck it up and try to keep to the training schedule!
